Goodbye my lover (Summer)

So. Today was my first day of class in 22 weeks. I was eager to start; ready to have some intellectual goals beyond remembering my neighbours’ names. One more thing about Freshers’ week, though. For the sake of the authenticity of this blog, I must mention that I spent the last few days ill. On the 25, I came down with a cough that turned into a rather nasty fever. I had such a scare that I actually called the NHS(national health service) to see whether I should be seeking Swine Flu treatment. Considering that my condition--at the time--matched the stated symptoms exactly, I’d like to think that it wasn’t an enormous overreaction. It was interesting to see the NHS in action. The procedure, you see, is to call the swine flu hotline just in case. Then, after being assessed by the people at the hotline, you’re redirected to your local GP(general practitioner) who can get you the treatment you need. I called the hotline around nine and spoke to the GP around 11, and by that time, I had begun to improve. I felt a little silly making such a big deal out of a routine flu, but I didn’t want to take any chances. To be honest, I’m actually glad I got my seasonal flu shot(thanks, mom). I’m not the biggest fan of shots, but who knows how much worse it could have been? I might have missed my first day of class. Which brings me back to today. With only the vestiges of my illness hanging on, I attended my first Jane Austen lecture (have I not yet mentioned that I changed from Scottish Verse to Jane Austen? Well I did. It applies better to my Wheaton degree. And although I will be the only guy in my class, I will be fully utilising this semester). It was held on the second floor of the English department Castle House near the Cathedral, across from the Castle and a fantastic view of the sea. Again, pictures will come. I’ve been working on it. Nobody had Olympus-compatible equipment. Even the electronics stores.
