Freshers' week!

Well, Freshers’ week is in full swing. Which is part of the reason I haven’t been updating as frequently. I been busy meeting people(swapping wacky 11 digit mobile numbers) and taking advantage of the opportunities of this unique part of the semester. There are all sorts of social events planned: from Ceilidh(traditional Scottish) dances to beach games to three-armed town tours in which you are tied to a member of the opposite sex and sent around to check out the local establishments. On Sunday afternoon, I went down to my hall’s favourite pub to see Manchester United beat Manchester City in an exciting 4-3 nail-biter. That evening, I taught the card game “spoons” to a group my English hallmates. Yesterday morning, I poured my coffee grounds down the sink(a habit I had retained from Wheaton) to find that the Scottish sinks aren’t as hearty as our American ones. However, if a clogged sink has been the worst of my troubles, I count myself very lucky. Which brings me to the other reason for my lack of posts. In all the hubbub of social activity, I have neglected to figure out my photo card reader situation. I’ve taken care of most of the organisational basics(the first day it was shaving cream, the next it was nail clippers), but I have been reluctant to buy a £5 card reader when the one I came with might just be lurking in another hidden pocket of my fancy-shmancy backpack. All this to say, I will upload photos of the town, course, and beach soon. It’s actually a sunny day today and will be perfect for creating the illusion that its like this all the time (I actually cringed a bit when the sun peaked through my curtains this morning).

  1. I started to re-read your blog, and just realised that I think I actually remember you teaching us 'spoons'!! In the annex kitchen? And you ate microwavable rice or the like?
    Very random.
