Ashita wa Ashita no Kaze ga Fuku (On the morrow, the winds of tomorrow will blow (Tomorrow is a new day))

I know it may seem strange to be updating this dilapidated travelogue, but I have been thinking for a while now that this blog would see a round two. This second act--I thought--would deal with my stories as I participated in the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program this following year. However, after nearly two years of stewing, six months of anticipating, and two months of planning, I was not selected for an interview with JET. I’ve been speculating about the causes (they do not inform unsuccessful applicants of the reason for their rejection), and am significantly upset (I really was excited about doing this), but I have tried to focus this frustration into beneficial avenues: that being, primarily, research into other post-graduation plans. I will let you know if something serious coalesces, but after this disappointment, I may be more inclined to wait until I have good news to share.
In other news, I lived through the biggest snowstorm of my life this week. It was my first experience with something that could accurately be called a blizzard. Snowfall began Tuesday afternoon and continued in full force through the night. Tuesday evening, I went to dinner on campus, spent a few hours socialising (in anticipation of a snow-day), but headed back too late. Despite having four-wheel drive, my car got stuck a couple of blocks from my house. In the end, I was forced to abandon it for the night (with the blessing of the snowplough driver). I returned in the morning (amidst 2-3 ft. coverage), and--with Luke and David’s help--successfully retrieved my vehicle from its snowy captivity.
I do not plan to have as exciting news every week for the rest of the semester, but I will post as pertinent material comes my way. Who knows, maybe this post will end up being the first scene of the blog’s second act. That is, if you can handle the cheesiness of that previous sentence.
